Review for Examination Day

January 25-26, 2010

I thought I can relax and rest my mind in these two consecutive days. At home, I told myself that I will just go to school to stay and I will not be exhausted to teach again. But it was beyond my expectation. I still taught the class and handle the review for the incoming examination day.

When I reviewed them on their English lessons, I was like going back to a new discussion. It was very hard to give focus on the particular subject matter since it may only waste time. The purpose of the lesson is to review not to discuss in an actual teaching.

In the first day of the review, I made it as purely discussion/lecture method. It is because the topics must be reviewed thoroughly to the students.

The following day, I thought lecture method will get my students bored. I have to think of another way. Thanks for the idea when I saw the boards and used them for group games. I made the review lesson in the form of a game where in the students had enjoyed.

As I have observed, the review materials given to me was the same test paper to be used for the examination day. Hence, if the students are really attentive, they have the possibilities to get high scores in the test. It will be an advantage for the slow learners. But, the test will not be reliable to assess the performance of the students.

I remember the time when I was in Elementary. During the review, I listened attentively so that on examination day, I can get a perfect score. I can not imagine how this scenario has never been removed in the system of education today. I hope that when I am already a teacher, it will not happen anymore. But there is a tendency for student teachers to do this, since they were exposed on it and find it as a simple way to make examination an easier part for the students. If any teacher of tomorrow would decide to take away this bad picture of educational system; they can solve the problem by merely making a difference.
