If students and/or teachers rejoice over the suspension of class due to the BED Intramurals, we are not happy on lost time for teaching. Thus, we get creative to make-up for the vanished teaching schedules.
I talked with my cooperating teachers regarding our teaching schedule. We are actually required to accomplish the last three teaching stages: teaching 2 subjects (1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon) a day, half-day teaching; and straight teaching. Due to too many interruptions like school activities, we find it hard to follow the course outline.
Ma’am Malou said that we could not be able to follow the course outline for the in-campus teaching because of the different subjects’ schedule for primary and intermediate level. Hence, the student teachers in the primary level will have a different teaching schedule to those in the intermediate level.
We will lack in time if we are going to follow the required teaching schedule; otherwise, we will extend our stay for in-campus practice teaching.
Because of this, we are not going to teach anymore 2 subjects per day and even the half-day teaching. Starting December 8, 2009, we will have our straight teaching until December 11, 2009.
It is going to be a weeklong straight teaching. In this situation, I realized what would be the actual teaching. Perhaps, when we are already a teacher, we may experience how the time for studies and teaching will be affected by some occurrences the trigger the school curriculum. The school years are bombarded with so many activities like Nutrition Month, Fiesta (Barangay, Town, Peñafrancia, etc.) and so on. Hence, there will be lack time for students to focus on study.
There have been weather related class suspensions, public and special non-working holidays, and days of influenza AH1N1 virus related suspensions. Add to these the local government holidays or religious holidays for Catholic schools. It is going to be a school-free days for the students.
As a teacher, how could you make a move on it? If you’re such a join-the-flow teacher, perhaps you are always with it. Otherwise, if you care for your student; you probably think up of other ways to make up the lost time for teaching and learning.
