The Dancing King November 26, 2009

In the first schedule of the class, the Grade 2 dancers have their practice. Ma’am Yen taught them new steps in another song Dancing Queen. I was busy cutting my art craft for the classroom structuring. It is an advantage for me since I can slowly decorate the room without cramming for a day to finish it. At least, one at a time, I started making these artworks.

I had my second teaching. Actually, it was the continuation of the first activity. Although I did not lack time yesterday in my teaching demo, I still make a new preparation to improve their knowledge about the subject matter.

At this time, I prepared more activities for the hands-on and minds-on. One thing I noticed was my pupils always wanted to recite. So, I made it for them and I thought it was still not enough, they wanted more.

This time around, I let my pupils construct simple sentences using number words ad adjectives. It was happy because they really do their best to say something even “I have…” or “There are…”

In my second teaching, Ma’am left the room. So, I have a full control of the class.

In the afternoon, I gave them an activity again. I let my pupils draw their seatmate without looking at the paper. The game started. Although I saw some children looking at the paper, I just ignored it. Anyway, my purpose is not to let them draw but to let them behave.

After the activity, I presented their drawings by telling them, “These are now the new faces of Grade 2 pupils.” They were so excited to see their faces drawn by their partner. When the class saw the funny picture, they laughed out. It was really enjoying again.

After the class, they had their practice again in their mass demo.

The things I learned in this day was, do not build too much attachment to your students. Being approachable is enough for them to know that you really care. Although they know that I am strict, they liked me because I always bring a lot of excitement and surprises in the class.

Sometimes, I don’t have to use loud voice or firing eyes to discipline our students. There are many ways like providing them various activities where they will leave out making undesirable behaviors.

Now, I started researching different games that are suitable to the ages of my pupils. I am now getting a bigger picture of what kind of learners I have. Knowing the learner will definitely help out to know their needs. What a wonderful teaching experience!
