Upon reading the posters informing Nceans for the forthcoming Street Dance Competition, my cooperating teacher never doubt the capabilities of the elementary pupils. She immediately said, “We can do it.”
During the examination, she chose who among the students of Elementary Department will join the competition. After the examination, while the Christmas day was about to come, the children devoted their time to practice for the sake of the group.
January 4, the day which supposed to be the start of the school days became the remaining days for practice. The children were very determined to make sure that their dance presentation would bag awards in the competition. When they entered the room for a break, the sweats from exhausting practice were not like wastes of time.
The following day had been spent as the last day for the practice. Tomorrow, the presentation will be judged and the other departments of Naga College Foundation will witness how these little children dances like Pastores, a ritual dance during the Christmas to pronounce the coming of the Savior, Jesus Christ.
While the children were busy for their practice, we helped Ma’am Yen to assist the pupils in their practice.
Pastores Festival is being celebrated in Calabanga where I lived. When I was a little boy, I was also a Pastores dancer and our school always wins the competition. Hence, I have a broad background of the Bicol Festival to be represented by the Elementary Department in the Street Dance Competition.
